As we look ahead, it is imperative for individuals, organizations, and policymakers to understand and prepare for this evolving work environment.

The gig economy is a labour market where short-term contracts and freelance work are more common than permanent positions. The model leverages digital platforms to connect workers with employers for specific tasks or projects. Examples include ride-sharing services like Uber, freelance marketplaces such as Upwork, and short-term rental platforms like Airbnb. This change is fuelled by technological advancements, evolving worker preferences, and a growing need for flexible work options.
